Most residential HVAC and smart-thermostat brands trace back to a small number of parent companies. Pick a brand below for model-specific guides, or jump to the comparison table further down for real specs — C-wire requirements, heat pump staging, and smart-home integrations — verified against each manufacturer’s own documentation.
The control layer — the thermostat you actually interact with day to day.
The furnace, AC, or heat pump itself. Grouped by parent company — several “different” brands on this list are identical equipment sold through separate dealer networks.
Specs pulled from each manufacturer’s own documentation, not marketing copy — see how we verify these. “Systems” means what the thermostat has confirmed native support for, not just “probably works.”

Braeburn and Aprilaire have brand hub pages but no independently-verified spec sheet yet in our knowledge base — they’re intentionally left off this table rather than guessed at.
“Ecosystem” is voice-assistant/smart-home integration (Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Matter) — not the same as HVAC-side compatibility. A thermostat can integrate with every voice assistant and still be the wrong choice for a dual-fuel or geothermal system if its AUX/staging controls aren’t granular enough — see the “confirmed compatible systems” column, not just the ecosystem badges.
Ranked picks across every wiring situation and use case, built from the same verified specs as the table above.
